Creating Strong and Secure Relationships

Did you know - creating strong, secure relationships has very little to do with learning how to argue better, analyzing your early childhood, making grand romantic gestures, or experimenting with new sexual positions? Instead - the key is getting to the emotional underpinnings of your relationship by recognizing that you are emotionally attached to and dependent on your partner in the same way that a child is to a parent for nurturing, soothing and protection. It can be a shock to realize that we are this vunerable, but also liberating, freeing us up to prioritize establishing and maintaining emotional connectedness with our partner. If we want to enhance or save our relationship - we need to be open, attuned and responsive to each other. This is the challenging and powerful message offered by Dr Sue Johnson, the developer of Emotionally Focussed Couple Therapy - a powerful and effective way to build loving relationships. If you want to read more, buy her book "Hold Me Tight: Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love", available through my website (go to 'recommended books' - drop down from 'resources and links').
